South Saskatchewan Region Surface Water Quality Updates– Alberta Government
Status of the South Saskatchewan Region Surface Water Quality Management Framework since 2014.
As part of the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan, the South Saskatchewan Region Surface Water Quality Management Framework sets out the process to monitor and manage water quality in the main rivers within the region. It is a complement to existing water quality management processes, including spill reporting and drinking water management.
Fifteen water quality indicators were selected and are routinely monitored to ensure they are within limits. There are additional indicators monitored, such as pesticides and metals, but there are no limits yet due to insufficient data. If limits are exceeded, then a management response is triggered.
The main rivers monitored by the South Saskatchewan Region Surface Water Quality Management Framework are the Bow, Milk, Oldman and South Saskatchewan rivers. There are nine long-term monitoring stations along the rivers.
