Lower Athabasca Regional Plan

About the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan

The Lower Athabasca Regional Plan came into effect in 2012 – the first regional plan to be developed and implemented. It outlines the 10-year vision for the region, including a strategic plan, implementation plan and regulatory details.

Covering over 93,000 square kilometres, the Lower Athabasca region makes up around 14% of the province in area. It is located in the northeastern corner of the province, stretching from the MD of Bonnyville to the northern border of the province.
