Surface water quality management framework engagementsGovernment of Alberta

Consultation until September 17, 2021

Alberta Environment and Parks is seeking input from Alberta’s municipalities on surface water quality management frameworks for the Upper Athabasca, Battle and North Saskatchewan rivers. Similar to existing water management frameworks, the surface water quality management frameworks aim to ensure there is appropriate objectives, monitoring and management of surface water in main watersheds.

Complete the engagements by September 17, 2021 to provide input on frameworks for the North Saskatchewan and Battle rivers and the upper Athabasca River.

“All Albertans value water and with this recognition, the province is taking steps to manage water quality through a multi-stakeholder framework approach,” said Paul McLauchlin, president of the Rural Municipalities of Alberta, in the government news release.

“As most of Alberta’s industrial activity takes place in rural areas, the RMA supports this as a positive step intended to support continual improvements to protect Alberta’s environmental landscape moving forward. It is by active management and not just monitoring that this valuable resource can be protected.”
